The Remains have arrived home. No crepe-draped carriage with black horses, no saluting honor guard, just a quiet ride out of the morgue on a plain wire gurney (well, a shopping cart with a fold-down in the front), a journey home face-down on the back seat, and a final heft up the stairs to the venue for the wake. Which venue is, at the moment, beside this chair. Later, when I have the strength, I'll heave him back up onto the desk he used to live on, partly to see if maybe the analog board will hold out just a little longer so I can at least fetch out my stationery template and one un-backed-up work-in-progress to a floppy, and mostly because it's the only place to put him where he won't get kicked. (I hope I don't end up getting an eMac, because I hear they weigh 12 pounds more than this... {sigh})

We inquired about the Apple Loan. The website giggled at us. I may have to bite the bullet and put some of my artworks at the mercy of eBay... it's not as if I've got the cash to submit them to any shows or get them there if they got in, anyway, so I'm not sure I'd really be losing anything by the attempt, they're certainly doing me no good hanging about the house. Watch this space...

I would like to know what the MicroCenter tech I spoke to on Monday was smoking RE his answer about the external drives, because the selection there today was a SCSI-1 case for $70 and a FireWire one for $160 -- I will shop around some more (and I ought to have thought to look over on the Dark Side of the store, dang it), meanwhile if anyone's got any clues on sticking a rev.D (333MHz) - vintage hard drive into an external case, I'm all ears. (I'm pretty sure that the SCSI-1 is a no-go with an IDE drive, and anyway what would I hook it up to when I was done? The IIci would blow up if I tried to introduce it to an HFS+ disk...)

Cloudy last night, cloudy tonight as well. I think there's one last lawn-party Mars viewing at the planetarium next Friday; I'm getting rather frustrated, because this is a Very Cool (and Free) Thing and I'm missing it. It had better clear up by then...

In closing, Griff, who I have always thought of as an honorary Irishman since he is Saint Patrick's Day green (and I think some iMacs were assembled in Ireland, too, weren't they?), would be most honored if you, the Dear Readers, would go out and indulge yourselves in the time-honored custom of the Irish Wake: go to your nearest drinking establishment of the appropriate ethnicity and get yourself smashed while remembering fondly of the Departed, as loudly as possible. Thank you.

Still considering the promised Memorial Service. Does the Death Of Computers say,

BEEP.
