Now this is taking genetic engineering too far... I s'pose we're meant to top them with square tomatoes, too.
Thanks to NetFlix, I finally got to see The Wicker Man over the weekend, and quite enjoyed it in spite, or perhaps because, of having had the ending revealed to me by the person who was originally recommending it to me some fifteen years ago -- not that I probably wouldn't have been rooting for someone to set alight that stick up the policeman's arse even without knowing how it was going to come out. How anyone can get so upset when the villagers are making human sacrifice look about as racy as a Methodist picnic is beyond me, but I suppose people had actual Sensibilities left to shock in 1973, or something. As it is, the enduring image for me is an axe-wielding Christopher Lee in drag, looking entirely too much like he's auditioning for Mommie Dearest for the modern viewer not to giggle. Still, it was an interesting film to watch from the perspective of a skeptic who often thinks that today's Fundies are about as preposterous about their beliefs as the cultists of Summerisle, and just about as likely to end up nailing someone to something if they're not kept an eye on. Human nature is human nature, after all, much as certain segments like to pretend that it's only the other lot who would do a thing like that.
...Dammit, now I want some real tomatoes. {goes off to sulk until August}
