two steps forward, one step back

Still pondering the email problem; it occurred to me that LO, I do still have floppies of an appropriate vintage kicking around from the tenure of Griff's immediate predecessor (an LCII currently taking up space in a sort of undead twilight on the other half of the Main Desk, having developed an ominous hiss some years ago that makes me afraid to turn him on for fear he may decide to electrocute me out of spite), so I have managed to lay hands on a version of Eudora that Mum's IIci can understand. Sort of. It's rather like breathing mud, at 14.4, but I do already see emails here that I couldn't get hold of via web when I tried at the library; however, at the moment, there appears to be a particularly evil chunk of spam wedged sideways in my email box, for attempts at fetching mail terminate abruptly at the same message despite repeated fiddling with settings. So I shall have to go by the library and see if I can blast the offending message out of my way... and then perhaps, perhaps, I may be back to something resembling access to my email account.
