Just dropped $30 for a 6mo sub to Locus and surprisingly feel somewhat better about the life thing all of a sudden, despite the fact that I'm actually supposed to be sitting here scanning in pictures for a knitting article submission and only decided to get around to the Locus thing right now because when I went to print out something I'd downloaded beforehand for the purpose of not having to sign on to look for it, Formerly seemed so determined to make me waste the afternoon online despite myself that he "accidentally" signed me on while I was trying to do something else... twice in a row. So I bowed to the inevitable, if that's what the opinionated little gumdrop thinks I should be doing this afternoon. (Must tear myself away soon, though, the scanner's still on.)
Improved outlook could also have a wee bit to do with having spent Saturday afternoon browsing the most pornographic assemblage of yarn I've ever seen collected in the same place, IE the dealer's room at the Stitches Midwest trade-show out at O'Hare. Fortunately my strategy of getting separated from Mum right at the outset kept me from getting into too much trouble -- it's amazing how having to take notes first because some other party has all your money stops the fiber equivalent of ten candy bars and a case of gum from impulse-buying its way into one's bag along the way. (Mum, however, went and bought $13 worth of buttons while I wasn't watching her.) Overall, while I do rather feel that I let down the side somehow by not buying more yarn than I did, it was quite educational so far as "for future reference, this is what X looks/feels/knits up like, if I want to order some online sometime" purposes, which was really at least half of my purpose in going in the first place. Total yarn actually added to stash: 4 balls of Noro "Kureyon" for something I had already been intending to make anyway, and one hank of 300-odd yards of brown wool which has already informed me that it wants to mate with a ball of mohair I have on-hand to produce a hat of dubious lineage. On my sock needles, no less. We Shall See how this turns out... The downside, or perhaps upside, of my shopping strategy was that by the time I had made these other purchases and gone back for a random skein of pink horror that would truly have been a frivolous purchase, someone else had already come along in the meantime and saved me from having to agonize over it in front of Mum. Ah, well, at least it won't be sitting there wanting me to turn it into a gnome hat or something even fuglier, I suppose.
After the yarnorgy show, since we were out by I-294, we dropped down to the south 'burbs for
atlanticat's party, a quiet affair that I probably would have enjoyed myself at more if my Muse weren't still deep in the yarn-fugue from the show. I think my Muse needs an oil change, or whatever it is one does to Muses, since now that I am sitting here trying to get her to work on knitting-related writing, all she seems to want to do is surf LJ and write porn... But at least I did get her to OK the photos before she wandered off; must hit 'post' now and get on with my scanning before the bulb melts or something...
