Went by MicroCenter again over the weekend and found more selections of external case over in the PC section; continuing on the logic that I'm most likely to end up with a USB-only-vintage Mac, I bought a USB version, $76.11 with tax -- I can exchange it should I be so lucky as to come by a FireWire Mac, which still seems extremely unlikely. The brain transplant, therefore, will not be performed until a replacement Mac is actually in-house. And I do have an intriguing lead from an exceptionally generous reader... stay tuned.
Prostrated by allergies since posting funeral, although I did manage to get out to the Mars viewing at the Adler -- 2 hour wait for 30 second glimpse, but man, was that cool! More later, perhaps, when I'm not struggling to see the screen for the sneezing... (it has a wobble of its own and right now I can't tell which issue is what's making it jump)
