  • New Thing Learned for 21 April: Carousel horses have round pupils, as opposed to authentic oval pupils, to give them a "friendlier look", IE so as not to scare the kiddies. [Source: How It's Made.]

And now, your Yran Pr0n update from the 2007 edition of the annual Lorna's Laces "...Actually, no, we didn't mean to do that" seconds/mill-ends Sale Extravaganza, held yesterday for members of the Windy City Knitting Guild:

IMG_0659.JPG

Left side: Fisherman, one-off color; Bullfrogs & Butterflies, "Rainbow"; Helen's lace, one-off color; Lion & Lamb, "Wisteria" (partial skein)

Right side: Shepherd worsted, "Devon"; Shepherd sport, "Georgetown"; Shepherd sock, "Sherbert"; Shepherd sock, "Iris Garden"; Shepherd sock, "Bittersweet"; Shepherd sock, "Envy"

Total damages: $108, which is good because I had $110 in my wallet. ;) And unlike last year's, as you can see I did get there early enough this time to get a shot at the fancier yarns, so that was Good. I think.

(And yes, that's a taco bell Darth Maul cup in the background -- I'm not sure where the topper went, but it's undoubtedly up to no good.)

Lunch at Spacca Napoli afterwards was interesting; on the advice of the server that 1 pizza roughly equalled 1 person's serving, we decided to choose one pizza species at a time and share it, then next person picked and we shared, and so on, until everyone declared fullness, which coincided neatly with the end of the last person-to-choose's selected pizza. (Verdict: the Prosciutto e Arucola was everyone's top pick, the Bufalina and Margherita were pretty good, and the Salsiccia e Broccoletti was... different, not necessarily in a bad way, but not really a taste anyone at the table seemed all that interested in acquiring.) Must have large enough gatherings to sample around like that more often...
