Side benefit from doing this "New Things Learned" project: I know who Percy Julian High School was named after. Nifty!
So I went to that Looptopia thing on Friday, since the knitting guild was hosting one of the events and "be more social or at least get out of the freaking house more" is on my Resolutions list. Unfortunately, the event was exactly the sort of perfect storm of sensory chaos that's a big part of why I don't get out as much as I should -- when even the knitting venue is too noisy, things are going to go badly with me. Between the ADD and the general hermitish misanthropy about people who are too stupid not to stop for conversations right at the crosswalk, I lasted about ten minutes in with the knitters and then another twenty fighting my way upstream through the hordes of shuffling zombies out in the streets, and when I finally decided to give up and go home before I started trying to clear a path for myself with my knitting bag, it took me another ten minutes to struggle the block and a half through the mob to the nearest Red Line entrance. It actually took me longer to get home than the total time I'd been down there. Argh. At least I hadn't insisted Mum come with after dropping me off, though -- she wouldn't have lasted five minutes, and then she'd have been pissed about having to park for that.
In the plus column for the weekend: the sweet peas are finally coming up!

The sunflowers are thriving, as well:

As are the tomatoes, bought as plantlets and intercropped with Upstairs's roses in place of some bushes the whole building hated:

To enjoy all this gardeny goodness, we picked up a bench at IKEA on Sunday (Mother's Day turns out to be the day to go out there without having to choke some idiot by the time you get to checkout, BTW):

Mmm, productivity. Almost makes up for having spent most of the rest of the weekend screwing around playing RuneScape.

- New Thing Learned for 14 May: Sam Neill is from New Zealand. I think the ozone hole was invented after his school days, so I don't know whether they made him wear a hat. [Source: New Zealand : a quick guide to customs and etiquette, Susan Butler.]
