Plugging away at the Learning New Things Every Day initiative, we have:

  • New Thing Learned for 5 January: Another nifty OS X Mail trick is that it can think in smart mailboxes the same way iTunes does smart playlists. Useful to know now that I've ended up doing the newsletter for the knitting guild and need to round up the appropriate mails without having to screw around with a thousand separate filtering rules. [Source: got lost trying to remember where OS X Mail's filtering rules lived.]

  • New Thing Learned for 6 January: The racing-striped house centipede has twelve pairs of walking-around-on legs, viz:

    ooo, drumsticks! )

    This one was posing at eye-level for quite some time, which is why I eventually went to get the camera; the specimens here aren't nearly in Groucho's league, more of a Zeppo-class inch or so, but they're still a little alarming taken at face-height like that. [Source: volunteer centipede.]


Survived annual Holiday Visit drive up to Relations in WI; gifts mostly wildly inaccurate as usual, but did include an amusingly hideous pair of furry slippers, and a halfway reasonable zippered hoodie that I may deign to wear in public now that I've managed to "lose" the sweater with the skates on.
