...And then went and drafted out most of the remainder of chapter 4, suddenly having managed to resolve the plot-hole in the original with a detail from canon that got displaced in the reframing for chapter 2. Remains to be seen whether this will be rubbish when considered after sleep, but feeling much less headkeyboardy about prospects for making the deadline now it's basically a matter of buckling down to fill in the rest of chapter 7...
