WEATHER. WE HAS IT.
It seemed like a good idea to go out and brush off what accumulated after Mum "parked" last night at 10:30 (it's... not blocking the road proper, anyway, and hardly the only car that's basically been left where it fell), so I went for a bit of a recce as it was getting dark. There's... snow. Everywhere. People had emerged to start digging out, but it's going to be a while; the main arterials around us are "cleared", but still not exactly fair driving, and as for the side streets, well, they're passable for certain values of passable that may or may not include the car that's actually trying to navigate them.
We don't know yet if the problems Mum was having with the car during the storm were the transmission burning out or just the conditions. Or if Mum still has a job, since she basically said to her dispatcher last night that whatever They had in mind from their home base in North Carolina it wasn't going to be physically possible for her to get out there today (see "don't know if there's something wrong with the car", above). There wasn't any point in even trying to dig the car out of where she left it today, because there wouldn't be anywhere else to put it anyway, so we'll have another go in the morning to see if A) the car is feeling better and B) if we can get it out if it is running, or call someone to come get it if it isn't running. Either way, I doubt she's getting paid for today at the very least...
