Muse has pitched to me the tentative theory that considering the current project on the level of meta-narrative and THEMES, it's fairly obvious that Jason's supernatural condition is a metaphor for belonging (where does he come down RE the racial angle and how does he feel RE that he has these choices), Trevor's is intimacy (how someone in his situation deals with forming relationships, on all levels), and Jill's is agency (to what degree does she have the power to shape her own life now).
