OMG you guys I saw a mink. I, um, somehow ended up in the woods on the way home from the library (don't bother trying to figure that one out, it involves several "...nope, still too bored to go home" coin-flips) and as I was passing a pile of brush that had backed up behind a downed tree across the river, thinking Hm, looks like ya got incompetent beavers, dude, I spotted something furry crawling around on one of the logs... I need a cameraphone, dammit. Other wildlife sightings for the day include six deer, two flickers, and a rabbit, and a couple of days ago I saw the muskrat that seems to live in a particular yard right at the river that I sometimes pass by, but I wasn't even aware that this area had anything that far outside the range of the usual opportunistic species that can put up with living amongst humans.

This was an improvement over how the day started, which involved a tech coming round to look at the part of the phone-wiring that's between the box in the alley and our wall, only to discover that someone has changed the lock to the common area where the phone-lines come into the building, not to mention where the gas-meters live. (He says, BTW, that "something's gotten wet", which would tally with the trouble having started after that big storm.) I suspect this has something to do with the Domestic Situation somebody was having, since I can definitely see someone in the unit with the back-door that gives out into that common area maybe getting a wee bit confused about which lock is actually theirs to change to keep out the ex... {sigh} I need a single-family dwelling, I am so up to here with being at the mercy of people who are too stupid to live.
