Well, MicroCenter closes at nine, so I don't think they're calling tonight, either... I'm beginning to think that the tube physically exploded when they turned it on to have a look-see and now they're trying to figure out how to break this to me in a manner that makes it My Fault. Either that or they're all busy diagnosing rampaging cases of SoBig... I shall have to break down and call them on Monday. Fortunately I still have the number taped up by the phone from the last time Griff was in hospital a year and a half ago (he wouldn't start up; it turned out to be a dead PRAM battery, which I am still kicking myself over because I could have fixed that myself if I'd realized what it was... I have to keep reminding myself that I would have been too distraught to perform such surgery at the time anyway since Griff went into the shop the same day that my beloved 18-Y-O cat had to be euthanized and I actually went from the vet, to drop off Griff at MC, to a friend's yard to bury the cat).
On top of everything else, I've broken a filling. However, as I am allegedly a Rational Actor, as opposed to Helpless Dependents like the cats and Griff whom one is obligated to care for in a timely and humane fashion, I can be stoic about it for a couple of paycheck-cycles until we can spare some cash for a trip to the dentist. The last time this filling broke, this turned out to be nine months later. But at least this time it's only broken and not gone altogether (although it is rather sharp and I may enquire as to the chances of having the jagged remainder filed smooth as a temporary measure, since for once we're still living where I can go back to the dentist who did the work that just failed), so it's more an inconvenience than a painful emergency as yet. This is the fourth time I've broken or lost this filling in the past 17 years; I'm eventually looking at a crown, I suppose, but I'd rather put that prospect off as long as I can, because crowns seem like one of those 'signs of decrepitude and mortality' that I just don't feel like dealing with yet, even besides the expense.
And speaking of signs of decrepitude and mortality, I hear that the Cubs and the White Sox are still in the race for their respective division titles, which strikes fear into my heart because I am a firm believer in the notion that either team making it to the World Series is in itself a sign of the End Times, so the idea of both winning games is enough to send me scrambling for the antacids. So overall I've been having a bad week.
