Just when we thought it was safe to go back into our closets, Mum started shuffling boxes around and unearthed another metric buttload of yarn. {sigh} Next MeetUp's Ugly Knitwear Giveaway will feature some scarves, because at least this lode happened to come in larger quantities of relatively compatible yarns than the odd balls I've been turning into hats for want of a better one-ball sort of item. Blue mohair, anyone?

I've been quiet lately because I've been having what I thought were keyboard troubles -- keys suddenly deciding to stick their fingers in their ears singing "LALALALALA I can't hear you", or occasionally ripping off bursts of doubled letters. I had been thinking it was an issue with Netscape, since that's what I've mostly been up to at the computer of late (Muse has the winter sulks at the moment and has holed up in her room eating cookies and refusing to come to work), but when I lost function in several keys in succession this afternoon while I was playing Diablo 2, and couldn't get them back after a hard reboot, I became alarmed enough to start going through the troubleshooting dance. Disk Doctor came up clean (I defragged so long as I had booted from the CD, never hurts), trashed keyboard prefs, still no joy in Macville; so, on a hunch, I pulled the keyboard plug out of USB port 2 and stuck it in port 1. And I am obviously typing this now, so I'm a few steps closer to a diagnosis: right now that would be looking like "crispy fried port", I think.

Awaiting suggestions from one of LJ's Mac communities about ways to diagnose this more definitively (anyone? Anyone? Bueller?), and meanwhile pondering options; it does still have the one port working okay as far as I can tell, and I seem to recall there being something about the two-port design where they're deliberately redundant like kidneys, not "if you die I die" conjoined twins, so I may be able to get by with throwing another USB hub on the pile while I save my pennies for a successor. Or it could explode before I can get this posted, who knows. Just what I needed, more stress...
