The trip to Kinko's was worth it: I was finally able to dispose of the offending piece of spam, which I now believe may also have been causing the trouble I was having at the library, and I have email access again!! So now I can begin sorting out the PayPal records -- which will take some time, as I'll probably end up doing most of it by hand (I've only had the [USB] printer for a year or so and I'm rather frightened how completely dependent upon it I've gotten) and matching names and emails to who's already said what when about the donations. Again, the current status of the fund is: first $75 that came in, was turned over to Mum for out-of-pocket expenses already incurred; next $80 to have come in, probably to be used to transplant Griff's HD into external case; $310 that came in after that point, I will be contacting those donors about their wishes RE return/replacement-fund/charity disposition; donations to come in on and after 8/26 go into replacement-fund. [Since certain parties in the Comments pages seem to be somewhat confused on this point. {ahem}]

Woke up just now in a panic that the MicroCenter tech on the phone will have managed to twist 'I have to talk to my finance person before you order any parts, we will come in to see you on Saturday' into 'oh, just chuck it in the bin'; I will call them when they open at 10 to assuage my fears and make sure that they're clear that they were to open it up to be absolutely sure of what the problem is, AND THEN wait until we talk to them before they go ahead with any actual repairs. This doesn't seem like a complicated concept to me, but given some of the yoyos I've had to beat sense out of in my day, doublechecking every move one makes these days seems prudent -- remind me some day to tell you the one about what happened with my father's body...

As to Tuesday, rather a busy day for me... Howard Dean in person reminds me of nothing quite so much as the Pillsbury dough-boy, for some reason; I think it's the cherubic grin, which has to be seen to be believed. He spoke for, oh, seemed like 45min/an hour, and then generously pressed the flesh with the Legions (I did an uncharacteristically fangirl thing and got him to sign my t-shirt, I will scan that if I can ever get my act back together equipmentwise and then figure out where to store it from). Miraculously, although a storm was rolling up, I don't know that any of us out on the terrace got very wet; I myself walked inside and by the time I'd gotten down the three flights of stairs to another window, it was pouring, and then when I'd walked the length of the pier to get out it had stopped, but YMMV.

I walked from the pier to the downtown library, so I could duck into the aforementioned Kinko's along the way, and because it's a given that I need the exercise. I had meant to hit the net again from the library, but it's simply too dreary in there (pink lights and gray walls), so I checked a few things out and headed home on the brown line... and nearly melted when I stepped out to change at Belmont, so I decided to go complete my net business up at the Evanston library instead of going home to my oven. And then on the way back from there, an announcement at Howard said that the SB red line would be delayed at least 20 minutes due to electrical troubles, so I decided, heck with it, from Howard I can actually WALK home in less time than that, and did. (With a satchelful of books.) So I imagine I put on 6 or 7 miles Tuesday, counting walking to and from (and on!) the pier; considering that I was wringing wet with sweat and my trousers were starting to slip off by the end of the day, I think I must have sweated out at least a pound or two. Which isn't exactly making a dent, but it makes me feel Virtuous, or something. Oh, and I dropped by the LiveJournal MeetUp, as well. Must make more business cards, if I ever get a real computer again...

Wednesday I believe I spent in bed, or stuck to the furniture in a heat-fog, I'm not sure which or if there's really a distinction. At any rate I can't account for the day at all.

Tonight's schedule, weather permitting, includes going down to the planetarium for the Mars-viewing party out on the lawn; more Exercise since I'm not sure whether that bus or the shuttle run that late... (Yes, walking seems to be a recurring theme in this journal -- I don't have a car myself so during the week it's a combination of feet and whatever I may have scraped together for busfare. Such is the life of the Artist in modern American society...)
