Well, it's official, I called MicroCenter and Griff would need both the repairs to be restored to the world of the living, so we are pulling the plug. A memorial service will be posted here over the weekend; mourners are invited to leave their condolences on the Comments page below.

My task now shall be, besides boiling some eggs, to sort out the details of the medical fund's dispersal: fortunately, I figured out how to fetch the PayPal log-file that's got ALL the relevant info in it, so I can have more leisure than copying from online to work out who gave what when and apportion the funds appropriately (details of same being in this day's previous note). The fund is still open, because I don't actually know how to close it (this may be on the PayPal page that just crashed the IIci a few minutes ago), so if one feels moved to leave a little something towards the welfare of Griff's survivors, it would be very kind of you.

Griff's own mortal remains are still at MC, to be picked up over the weekend: his hard drive will be transplanted into a case to live a tortured existence as an external drive, his CD-ROM drive and 128MB RAMchip will be brokered off on eBay to defray his final expenses, and I have artistic designs for his shell and motherboard. The auctions will be announced in this space when I can get them put together -- probably looking at late next week. I have no idea what to do with the damn CRT...

Again, I thank all of you who've been so concerned for the little guy during his final illness. I've got the donors-file saved to disk now, and as I say I'll be emailing all of you -- not least, to ask how y'all would prefer to be credited, both here if you like and on the Acknowledgements Page to the novel that's still trapped in Griff's tummy.

And now I am going to go fall down for a while, since as I get thinking about it, I don't think I did get much if any sleep last night... I had meant to get emailing already, when I sat down here at eleven, but I forgot how long everything takes at 25MHz... So maybe later tonight, but more likely tomorrow.

{wanders off looking for the kleenex...}
